Professional Outpatient Preventive Dental Care, Delivered in Partnership With Veterinarians

Pet Dental Services provides anesthesia-free preventive dental care through our trademarked POPD™ (Professional Outpatient Preventive Dental) program—performed under veterinary oversight and designed to support early intervention, continuity of care, and improved oral health outcomes.

For more than 25 years, Pet Dental Services has worked alongside veterinary hospitals nationwide to help address dental disease earlier—while maintaining clear clinical boundaries and reinforcing the essential role of anesthetic dentistry when advanced disease is present. Our approach is collaborative, evidence-informed, and focused on patient safety, appropriate case selection, and long-term oral health management.

A Collaborative, Veterinarian-Led Model

The POPD™ program is designed to complement—not replace—traditional veterinary dentistry. Every patient is evaluated within the veterinary hospital setting, and candidacy for anesthesia-free care is determined by the attending veterinarian.

Our role is to support your practice by:

  • Providing structured, preventive dental care for appropriate patients
  • Identifying cases that require anesthetic dentistry and referral
  • Extending the time between anesthetic procedures when clinically appropriate
  • Supporting client education and compliance with home care

Veterinarians remain responsible for diagnosis, treatment planning, and referral decisions. Pet Dental Services operates within clearly defined clinical parameters and refers advanced disease promptly.

Adjunct Preventive Enhancements

Laser Bacterial Reduction

In select markets, Pet Dental Services offers laser bacterial reduction as an optional adjunct to the POPD™ preventive protocol.

Performed by Biolase-certified technicians within the veterinary hospital setting, this non-invasive cold laser therapy is designed to reduce subgingival bacterial load and support tissue healing as part of a structured preventive plan.

When clinically appropriate, laser therapy may:

  • Support reduction of inflammation
  • Enhance tissue healing
  • Improve comfort during maintenance care

As with all PDS services, candidacy is determined by the attending veterinarian and performed under veterinary supervision.
